Jesus and The Gospel

Who is Jesus? He is the Son of God, who died for our sins and rose from the dead. He is the one who provides us with hope and salvation. Jesus is the one who desires for us to have a relationship with Him. He is the one who longs to be in fellowship with us. Jesus is our friend, and He desires to have a personal relationship with each of us.

The gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose from the dead. This means that we can be forgiven and have eternal life through faith in Him. Jesus is the only way to know God and receive salvation. The gospel is good news for everyone, no matter who you are or what you have done.

Discipleship

Disciple comes from a Greek word that means “to follow after.” Disciples were students back in the days when we had neither books nor computers; disciples would attend lectures and follow after their teacher, learning his or her teachings.

Jesus (our ultimate teacher) is the head of His church; however, He desires for His people to make other disciples. Everyone has heard about Jesus Christ; now it’s time to make more disciples by leading others to Him! The best way to lead others to Christ is by teaching them how to follow after Him.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” -Matthew 28:19-20

“He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases.” -Mark 3:15

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” – Colossians 2:6-7

Baptism

Jesus commanded that everyone must be baptized. Baptism is an outward expression of the new life you have in Jesus Christ. By being baptized, you are showing your faith in Him and declaring your love for God. You are also placing yourself under His authority by submitting to baptism.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” – Matthew 28:19

“Now when they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying.” -Acts 19:5-6

Bible Reading

The Bible is the Holy Spirit-inspired word of God, written down for our benefit throughout history. The Bible contains 66 books; it is composed of the Old Testament (which tells us about the history of Israel) and the New Testament (which tells us about the life of Jesus Christ and what He accomplished for us). Reading the Bible is the best way to become more like Jesus.

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” – 2 Timothy 3:16

Prayer

Jesus encouraged his disciples to pray. Prayer is talking with God about everything that affects you, your life, and the lives of others.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven…” – 2 Chronicles 7:14a

There are many types of prayer. Some include adoration (praising God), confession (telling God your sins), and supplication (asking for God’s help). One of the most important prayers is the prayer of intercession, which is praying for others.

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” -Ephesians 6:18

Evangelism

Jesus commanded that we go and make more disciples! You can fulfill Jesus’ command by inviting others to become part of the body of Christ (the church) one on one, or in small groups. A great way to invite someone is by sharing with them the good news of how God has changed your life through His Son, Jesus!

The Importance of Community/Being Connected to a Church

People who are new in town or are away from their hometown for an extended period of time often struggle because they miss the fellowship, support, and encouragement that they experienced at home through the church family they grew up in. Churches are a place to discover and experience healthy relationships. Churches in San Jose Del Monte provide opportunities for service, outreach, and practical ministry. Churches offer spiritual direction as well as spiritual enrichment through Bible studies and other group activities such as retreats or mission trips.

The Holy Spirit in Us

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, equal with God the Father and Jesus Christ. He is a divine being, who convicts the world of sin, leads people to repentance, and gives them the power to be witnesses for Christ. The Holy Spirit also empowers believers to do good works and to live holy lives.
