What Does it Mean To Have Faith in Jesus?

Faith is a deep and abiding trust. It means believing that what God says about Jesus is true, even if you don’t understand everything about him or know for sure all the reasons why he did what he did. Faith means trusting him enough to put your life in his hands. And because of this profound trust, your world changes: You are no longer alone; you are now part of something much bigger than yourself, a family with an incredible future ahead. In short, having faith in Jesus isn’t just an idea or opinion – it’s the most important decision of your entire life!

Getting to Know God

Knowing God is one of the most important aspects of Christianity. He created us and knows us intimately, and through prayer and spending time with Him in His Word, we can come to know Him better too. When we know God, we can rely on Him to help us through anything that comes our way in life. He is a loving Father who desires to have a relationship with us!

Becoming Christ-Like

A disciple is someone who follows Jesus and obeys his teachings. Discipleship is all about following Jesus, not doing things our own way or for ourselves but rather as he directs. It’s also about making disciples: sharing the good news of salvation with others, baptizing them in water, and teaching them what they need to know about him and how to live their lives for him every day. The Bible tells us that “Jesus came not only to preach the gospel but also to be an example of its power.” We are called by God himself – through Christ -to do likewise (1 Peter 2:21).

What does it mean then, when we say we want people to be “Christ-like?” Simply put, it means that we want them to have the character of Christ and live their lives the way he did. When we become more like Christ, we begin to see things from his perspective and care about the things he cares about. We start to desire what he desires – which is always good for us and for those around us.

How Can I Become Christ-like?

The best way to become more like Christ is to spend time with him every day. This means reading your Bible and praying regularly. It also means being involved in a local church where you can worship God with other believers and be taught more about him. As you grow in your relationship with Christ, you will start to see the fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control) develop in your life.

Baptism

Baptism is an important step of obedience for every follower of Jesus. It is an outward sign of the inward decision to make Jesus Lord of your life. When you are baptized, you are publicly declaring your faith in Jesus and your desire to live for him. Baptism doesn’t save you – only your faith in Christ can do that – but it is a significant symbol of your new life in him.

If you have never been baptized and would like to be, we would encourage you to speak to your pastor or another leader at your church. They will be able to help you take this important step of faith!

Prayer and Talking to God

Prayer is simply talking to God. It’s a way for us to communicate with our Heavenly Father and to build our relationship with him. We can pray about anything and everything – there are no limits! Prayer is also a way for us to ask God for help and guidance, and he always hears us when we come to him in prayer.

The Bible tells us that we should “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). This doesn’t mean that we need to be praying all the time, but it does mean that we should have an attitude of prayer in everything we do. We should be talking to God throughout the day, thanking him for his blessings, asking him for help, and seeking his guidance in everything we do.

Reading the Bible

The Bible is God’s Word to us, and it is full of wisdom and guidance for our lives. It is living and active (Hebrews 4:12), meaning that it has the power to change our lives if we allow it to. If you have never read the Bible before, or if you’ve been struggling to stick with it, we would encourage you to start small. Try reading a few verses each day, or even just a few chapters each week. The important thing is to start! And as you read, ask God to help you understand what he is saying to you.

There are many resources available to help you read and understand the Bible. If you need some guidance, speak to your pastor or another leader at your church. They would be more than happy to help you get started!

Evangelism

Evangelism is simply sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with others. It’s telling people that there is hope for their lives, and that hope is found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. When we evangelize, we are bringing the good news of salvation to those who are lost and don’t know Christ.

The Great Commission tells us that we are all called by God to evangelize (Matthew 28:18-20). This is not a task that is reserved for pastors or missionaries – it is a calling for every follower of Christ! If you have never shared your faith before, or if you feel nervous about doing so, we would encourage you to start small. Talk to your friends and family about your faith, and look for opportunities to share the gospel with those around you. The important thing is to start! And as you get more comfortable sharing your faith, God will open up more opportunities for you to do so.
