What is Christianity?
Christianity is about a relationship with Jesus Christ. It’s about knowing Him and following Him, and it’s about becoming like Him.
When most people think of Christianity, they think of the Bible. And while the Bible is an important part of Christianity, it’s not the only part. Churches are also an important part of the Christian faith – in fact, Jesus says in the New Testament says that we are to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

Jesus
Jesus is the Son of God. He is the Word who became flesh. He is the one who came to earth to die for our sins, and He rose again three days later. Jesus is also the one who said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Jesus is our Savior – and there’s nothing we can do to earn our way into heaven. We need Jesus because we are sinners, and we deserve punishment for our sins. But because of Jesus’ death on the cross, we can be forgiven and have eternal life.
John 1:1-14 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him, nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. … The Word became flesh and lived among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 3:16-21 – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
Discipleship: Following Jesus
Discipleship is following Jesus; it’s about developing a relationship with Him and learning all that He commands us to do.
What a disciple looks like is someone who follows Jesus. Discipleship is about following God and living the way He wants us to. The church is a great place for disciples to gather and learn from others what they can do as a disciple. Churches also help people know the truth of the gospel, where salvation comes from, and more information on Jesus Christ.
The Gospel
The Gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It’s not just something that happened to Him two thousand years ago; it’s what He did for us to save us from our sins. When we believe in the Gospel (and nothing else will do), we are saved by the grace of God through the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Evangelism (aka sharing the Gospel) is telling others about Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection in order that they might be saved.
Prayer
When most people think of prayer, they think of asking God for things – like health, wealth, and happiness. But prayer is so much more than that! In fact, the Bible says that we should pray without ceasing.
Prayer is simply talking to God. It can be done anywhere at any time, and it doesn’t have to be fancy or formal. You can pray in your head or out loud; you can pray while sitting down or standing up.
The main thing is to just start talking to God. He wants us to come to Him with everything – our joys, our sorrows, our fears, and our hopes. He loves us and desires a relationship with us.
The Bible: God’s Holy Word
At the center of our faith is this book we call the Bible. It’s a collection of 66 different books, and it tells the story of God and His love for people. It reveals how we as humans messed everything up, and what Jesus came to do about it (which is explained in the Gospels). It’s a very special book, and it really is God’s inspired word.
Baptism: Your Public Declaration
Baptism represents cleansing from sin and death with the promise of new life in Christ. Through baptism, we proclaim our faith in Jesus’ saving work on the cross. Baptism is a public declaration that you are a follower of Christ, and it should only be done after someone has believed for a while.
What is Worship?
Worship is so much more than just singing songs or saying prayers. In fact, the Bible says that we are to worship God with everything we have – our hearts, our minds, and our bodies.
Worship is simply giving God our best. It’s making Him the focus of our lives and giving Him the glory He deserves. We can worship God through song, prayer, giving, serving, and more.
The important thing is to be intentional about our worship. We should set aside time each day to focus on Him and give Him our undivided attention. When we do this, we will find that our lives are changed for the better. We will become more like Jesus Christ, and He will be able to use us more fully in the Kingdom of God.
