The word “Christianity” comes from the Greek word Christ. It means someone who follows Christ as their Lord and Savior. These Christians believe that Jesus died on a cross to pay for our sins, was buried, and then rose again three days later because he loves us very much. They also believe in living a life of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and self-control every day because those are the fruits of the Holy Spirit. In other words: Christians follow Jesus by loving others well!

The Church is an important part of Christianity because it’s where we worship God together as a community with people from all over Davao City – not just one neighborhood or town but from all around this beautiful city! Talk to God!

When most people think of prayer, they think of asking God for things – like health, wealth, and happiness. And while prayer is certainly that (and more!), did you know that prayer is also a way to connect with God?

Prayer is simply talking to God. It can be done any time, anywhere, and doesn’t have to be fancy or long. In fact, one of the best ways to learn how to pray is by starting off with a simple conversation with God – just like you would talk to your best friend.

We Want You to Experience Life to the Fullest

What Does Prayer Look Like?

There’s no one right way to pray! Some people like to kneel down, some people prefer to close their eyes and go quiet inside, and some people talk out loud. You can pray standing up, sitting down, or even lying down. Your prayer doesn’t have to rhyme or sound poetic! In fact, many of Jesus’ prayers sounded more like everyday language than a poem.

Prayer is as individual as the person praying and God loves our individuality! Many times God will even give you good ideas on how to pray throughout the day. You can find some “go-to” prayers below or make up your own if none of these work for you!

What Should I Say?

How should you pray? Here are some thoughts about what to say when you talk to God:

• Thank God for who he is, what he has done, and all that you know about him.

• Express your love to God – tell him how much you appreciate everything he’s done for us.

Great example: “Dear God, thank you for loving me so much! I’m thankful that I can pray to you anytime and anywhere! Thank you for this opportunity to get to know you better today. Amen!”

• Ask for what you need – like wisdom, strength, and courage. If no one else knows about something you’re struggling with, pray your heart out! God already knows what’s going on in your life; there’s no need to feel like he doesn’t know what you’re thinking!

Great example: “Dear God, please help me to make the right choices today. I feel like I’m about to do something wrong, but you know it’s not because I want to hurt anyone. Please change my heart and show me how to do the right thing. Amen!”

• Thank God for the people in your life – like your friends, parents, brothers, and sisters in Christ, teachers, doctors/nurses, etc.

• Talk to God about what’s happening in your life – he loves hearing about what you’re experiencing!

Great example: “Dear God, I’m so excited for this new thing that I’m doing! Thank you for showing me this opportunity to share your love with others. Please keep me safe today and help me to do my best work. Amen!”

• Ask God for help when you need it – sometimes we need extra guidance or protection in our lives, so ask him for wisdom, strength, courage, comfort, forgiveness, etc. when you need it most.

Great example: “Dear God, I feel like I’m doing something wrong and I don’t know how to fix it. Please help me to see what’s going on and what I can do to make things right again. Show me the way because I’m feeling really lost right now! Thank you for making all things new through Jesus. Amen!”

What is Discipleship?

The word “disciple” comes from the Latin word “discipulus,” meaning “student.” When we become Christians, we are called to be students of Jesus Christ. Discipleship is a lifelong journey of learning more about who Jesus is and what he desires for our lives.

Jesus said that if we want to be his disciples, we must first deny ourselves, take up our cross daily, and follow him (Luke 9:23). This means that being a disciple of Jesus isn’t always easy – it requires sacrifice and commitment. But it’s also one of the most rewarding things we can do!

What Does It Mean To Be A Disciple?

Being a disciple of Jesus means that we are committed to walking with him throughout our lives. When we become Christians, it is our job to follow Jesus’ example and strive to be like him.

A disciple’s life consists of three main things:

• Learning about Jesus – the Bible (the Word of God) tells us who Jesus is and what he wants for us.

• Following Jesus – the Bible tells us how to follow Jesus. His actions are our example.

• Serving Jesus – through word and deed, we show God’s love to others so they can get to know him better.
