Father, Son, and Holy Spirit: The Trinity

The Trinity is the central doctrine of Christianity. It’s not a complicated idea, but it can seem confusing at first because of where the word “trinity” comes from. The term was coined by early church theologians to describe three aspects of God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The Bible teaches that all three are one in being or substance, yet each is distinct in personhood (or personality) with different tasks to fulfill in carrying out their mission to bring hope and healing into our world as they work together for redemption.

Each member of the Trinity has its own name, so you know which one is being talked about when someone says something like “Jesus loves me!” Jesus is the Son of God, and God is his Father.

The Holy Spirit is the third member of the Trinity. He is also called the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit of God. Sometimes people talk about “spirits” more generically to refer to all kinds of non-human beings with awareness, but technically speaking, humans are the only ones made out of spirit.

Discipleship: Growing in The Lord

Discipleship is a process of growing in our relationship with Jesus Christ. It begins with repentance (or turning away from our sin) and faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We receive forgiveness for our sins and are adopted into God’s family when we become disciples of Jesus Christ.

As disciples, we commit to following Jesus Christ, learning from him, and obeying his commands. We read the Bible to learn more about who God is and what he desires for our lives. We pray to get to know God better and to ask for his help in living out our faith. We fellowship with other believers, sharing in each other’s joys and sorrows, and supporting one another as we follow Jesus.

Knowing the Word

One of the most important things Christians can do is know the Bible. The Bible is God’s Word, given to us to guide our lives and help us grow in our relationship with him. It’s important to read the Bible not just once, but over and over again, so that we can learn more about who God is and what he desires for our lives.

The best way to get to know the Bible better is to study it. There are many different ways to study the Bible, depending on what you want to learn. You can read it cover-to-cover, or focus on a specific book or section of Scripture. You can also study it by topic, looking at how different verses relate to each other.

Prayer: Talking to God

All Christians are called to pray every day and all through the day—and for good reason! As we talk to God in prayer, he reveals himself to us and teaches us more about who he is. As we talk to God, our hearts are opened to experience the love of God in a deeper way.

We can pray anytime, anywhere. Some people like to take time out of their day for formal prayer—perhaps after reading the Bible or before bedtime. We can also pray spontaneously, even in the midst of a busy day.

Worship

Churches are places where people come to hear God’s Word and learn from the Bible, to receive guidance in prayer, and to find a family that will support them in their faith. Sharing Your Faith in Jesus Christ

One of the most important things Christians can do is share the Gospel with others. The Gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose from the dead, offering us forgiveness and eternal life. It’s important to share the Gospel with everyone we meet because everyone needs to hear about Jesus Christ and have the opportunity to receive him as their Savior.

There are many different ways to share the Gospel. We can share it through words, but we can also share it through our actions. When we live our lives in a way that shows people Jesus Christ is Lord, they will be more likely to listen to what we have to say about him.

It’s also important to pray for opportunities to share the Gospel. God is in control, and he’ll make sure the right people come into our lives when it’s time. Let’s commit to praying regularly for friends and family who don’t know Jesus Christ—and also stay open to opportunities to share his love with others.
