Following Jesus
Discipleship is the process of following Jesus. It’s a way of life that includes worship, service, and learning more about our faith. Disciples are people who have made the decision to follow Jesus. That means they commit themselves to living in a certain way, obeying His teachings and following Him as their Lord and Savior. Churches all around the world call people to make this commitment in baptism – symbolizing their death with Christ so that they may live with Him eternally. Churches in Baguio also provide programs for young adults (and sometimes children) to help them grow in faith through discipleship groups or classes called “discipline.” In these programs we learn how God wants us to live: by worshipping him faithfully, serving others in His name, and growing in faith through studying the Bible.
We Want You to Experience Life to the Fullest
Your Prayer Life
Prayer is the act of talking to God. It’s a way for us to talk with Him and tell Him what we need, want, or are grateful for. Prayer can be done in many ways: while worshiping at church, reading the Bible at home, or even just by sitting and thinking about God. In order to pray well we must have a good relationship with Jesus Christ; if you don’t know him as your Lord and Savior yet then prayer probably won’t make much sense right now!
There are many different types of prayer. Here are a few:
Praise and Thanksgiving: This type of prayer is used to thank God for all the good things He has done in our lives. We can also praise Him for who He is – the perfect, loving God.
Confession: This type of prayer is when we admit our sins to God and ask for His forgiveness. It’s an important part of our relationship with Him because it keeps us close to Him and reminds us that we are forgiven through Jesus Christ.
Intercession: This type of prayer is when we pray for others. We can ask God to heal them, bless them, or help them in some way. Intercession is important because it reminds us that we’re connected to a big, loving God who cares for all of His creation!
What is Baptism?
Baptism is the act of publically declaring our faith in Jesus and showing others that we’ve made a decision to follow Him. Churches all around the world celebrate baptisms as a way to publicly welcome new Christians into the family of God. It is also a way for new members to show their commitment to God and their home church! When we are baptized, we are dressed in white clothes and enter the water. The pastor or minister baptizes us by putting us under the water, then lifting us back up again. It is an act to show that Jesus died for all of our sins, was buried in a tomb, rose from the dead on the third day, and ascended into Heaven!
“And now what are you waiting for? Get baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.” (Acts 22:16)
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)
“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order to be resurrected with him.” (Romans 6:4)
Knowing the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the third member of the Trinity, which also includes God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son. He is sometimes called the “Spirit of God,” “Spirit of Christ,” or “Holy Spirit.” The Bible mentions Him more than 500 times!
The Holy Spirit is a mysterious figure, and much about Him remains a mystery. But we do know that He is involved in every aspect of our lives. He helps us to understand the Bible, guides us in our decisions, comforts us when we’re sad, and gives us power to live for Jesus.
The Holy Spirit desires for all people to come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. He wants to comfort them, guide them, and empower them so that they can seek forgiveness for their sins and be saved!
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:26)
“When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment.” (John 16:8)
What is Worship?
Worship is a time when we come together as a church to focus on God. We sing songs of praise to Him, read His Word, and pray together. We also come together to be baptized and celebrate new members who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Worship is an important part of our lives because it helps us to stay close to God and reminds us that we are part of His family!
