Jesus Christ – Our Savior and Lord
The heart of Christianity is about a relationship with Jesus Christ through his love, grace, and salvation. We are saved by the grace of God alone through faith in Jesus Christ alone. True Christianity involves having an active relationship with Him as our Savior and following His commands as our Lord.
We Want You to Experience Life to the Fullest
Being a Disciple of Jesus Christ
Jesus came to save us from sin and eternal punishment. He calls us to follow Him as disciples, obeying His commands (John 8:12; 12:49). A disciple is one who follows another in believing that person’s teaching. When we become followers of Jesus, we are said to be “on a journey of discipleship.”
The Importance of Community/Being Connected to the Church
Jesus wants us to be connected to His body, the church (Acts 2:42-47; 1 Corinthians 12:12-27). We should attend a local fellowship as part of following Jesus and being connected to other believers. Churches are God’s plan for our spiritual growth via relationships with believers. Churches also exist to serve the community.
There are many churches in Amritsar to get involved in. The churches in Amritsar are a great place to have fellowship with other believers as well as worship the Lord corporately. Additionally, finding a church means growing in the Lord and in His Word through the teaching and preaching of the pastors and leaders.
Baptism
Baptism is the act of obeying Jesus’ command to be baptized (Matthew 28:19-20). Being baptized shows that we have accepted Him as Savior and Lord of our lives, publicly identifying ourselves with Him and His body, the church.
Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River to identify with sinners, in order to fulfill all righteousness (Matthew 3:13-17). Jesus was sinless but called us to be baptized anyway. Baptism is about identifying with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.
Baptism is also a symbol of our new life in Christ since baptism signifies being buried with Christ into death and then being raised with Him in new life (Romans 6:3-4).
Prayer: Communicating with God
God desires for us to pray, which is talking/communicating with God. Prayer is a time when we express thanks to God, ask for His help, or make requests of Him. We can worship God through prayer. We are to pray for others as well.
As we grow in our relationship with Jesus through scripture and fellowship, we will become better equipped to pray to God (Romans 8:26-27; James 5:14-15). Prayer is an essential part of following Jesus as it allows us to communicate with God. There are many types of prayers, such as worshiping God verbally or silently, praying for others, and talking to God about what is in our hearts.
The Bible: God’s Living Word
The Bible is the Holy Spirit-inspired word of God (2 Timothy 3:16). It provides us with everything we need for life and godliness. We are to read the Bible, studying it regularly so that we can know God better and obey His commands (2 Timothy 2:15).
The church is made up of believers who have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Churches are communities of believers called out by God to be part of His family through faith in Him alone. Churches exist to encourage one another, worship God together, and serve the community. Churches also exist to disciple people in knowing Christ, growing in faith, and obeying Him (2 Timothy 2:2).
Evangelism
Jesus commanded His followers to go into all the world and preach the gospel (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15). We are to share the gospel with everyone, just as we have been freely given it. The purpose of evangelism is to proclaim the good news that Jesus died for our sins and rose again (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
As Christians, living in a community with fellow believers is important because they can help us grow in our faith (Acts 2:42-47). Churches are communities to help us not only grow but also connect with other believers. Churches are filled with people who love God and want to learn more about Him, both by studying His word and through fellowship. Churches can provide opportunities for evangelism as an integral part of church life.
Who is the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, and He is just as important as God the Father and Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit lives inside every believer who has accepted Jesus Christ as Savior. He helps us live a godly life and equips us to do good works that glorify God (Ephesians 2:10).
The Holy Spirit convicts sinners of their sin and leads them to repentance (John 16:8-11). He also teaches believers spiritual truths from the Bible. The Holy Spirit guides believers into all truth (John 16:13) and helps them understand it.
The Bible says that we should not grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30), meaning that we should not do things such as sin, refuse to believe in Jesus, or treat other people badly (Matthew 12:31-32). Words and actions against the Holy Spirit are blasphemous.
The Gospel
The gospel is the good news that we all have sinned and cannot please God on our own; however, God sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, so that we can spend eternity with Him in heaven if we believe in Jesus and turn from our old way of living (2 Corinthians 5:21). The gospel does not just include words but also actions. In Mark 1:15, the gospel is described as “the good news of God that he has promised, which was promised by the prophets in the Holy Scriptures.”
Jesus made a way for us to the Father. Before He came we were not able to enter into His holy presence without a sacrifice over and over again. However, Jesus became the perfect sacrifice, the spotless Lamb of God, who was sacrificed on the cross of Christ once and for all. Now we have full access to the Father by the blood of Jesus Christ.
