What is the Bible?
The Bible is a collection of 66 books that tells the story of God’s relationship with humanity. It is the primary source of information about Christianity, and it contains everything from historical narratives to letters from apostles to prophecy. The Bible is divided into two main sections: the Old Testament, which tells the story of Israel and their relationship with God, and the New Testament, which tells the story of Jesus Christ and His mission on earth. His mission on earth was to save us all by means of the finished work of the Cross.
In the Bible, we learn who God is and what His plan is for us. We also learn how to live in response to God’s love. The Bible contains many promises of hope for those who believe in Jesus Christ, which can be seen throughout both the Old Testament and New Testament.
You Just Accepted Christ! Now what?
So you’ve just accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and Lord- congratulations! Now what? Here are some things you need to do in order to grow in your new faith.
1. Gather Resources to Learn about Faith
There are many great resources available that can help you learn more about God and your new faith, including Bible study materials (online or hard copy), church services, small groups, and discussion guides for personal reflection.
2. Serve Others in Your Community
Volunteer with a local non-profit, or do a neighbor a favor without expecting anything in return.
3. Make Prayer a Priority for Your Life
God is the creator of the universe, yet He cares about each and every detail of your life. Pray to God throughout the day by talking with Him, singing to Him, sharing your worries with Him, etc.
4. Read the Bible Daily
The Bible is the Holy Spirit-inspired word of God, and it’s filled with wisdom that can help us to grow in our faith. Make it a goal to read the Bible every day, even if it’s only for a few minutes at a time. It will transform your life!
5. Get Connected with a Church in Your City
The Christian Church is all about community and building relationships. Find a local church in your area, and set up a time to visit one of their Sunday services. Once connected, consider attending small group meetings or events that the church hosts throughout the year.
What is Water Baptism?
Baptism symbolizes the old man dying and the new man rising to life in Christ in His resurrection! Baptism is also considered to be a sacrament in many Christian denominations because it’s an outward sign of one’s faith and repentance. However, baptism is not necessary for salvation and does not guarantee that someone will go to Heaven when they die.
There are three main purposes of baptism: to mark the beginning of one’s walk with Christ, publicly proclaim one’s faith in Christ, and show others that we are His followers (regardless if you’ve gotten baptized or not).
Personal Time With God
In order to grow in our faith, it’s important to spend time alone with God. Matthew 6:6 says, “But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.“
This can be done through prayer, reading the Bible, and simply spending time with Him in nature. When we take the time to connect with Him, He speaks to us and guides us on our journey.
Prayer is a way for us to communicate with God and share our hearts with Him. It’s also a way for us to receive guidance from Him and ask for His help in times of need. Prayer doesn’t have to be complicated- you can pray anytime, anywhere, about anything. Just take a few minutes each day to talk with God like you would talk with your best friend.
The Bible is another great way to connect with God. It’s a tool for us to learn about the history of the world, and how God has interacted with His creation throughout time and directs us on how we should conduct our lives according to His will.
